Dr Niall Pender

Dr Niall Pender is NAI member Headway's nominee to the board of NAI. Niall is currently Head of Department of Psychology and Principal Clinical Neuropsychologist at the National Neuroscience Centre, Beaumont Hospital Dublin. He is Adjunct Associate Professor in Psychology at Trinity College Dublin and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

In addition to his work with the NAI, Dr Pender is Chair of the Board of Headway, a member of the board of Research Motor Neurone and a member of the advisory panel for Multiple Sclerosis Society of Ireland. He was previously consultant neuropsychologist at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, London. He is a past President of the Psychological Society of Ireland and the Irish Brain Council.


He has a special interest in the cognitive, behavioural and emotional consequences of neurological events and diseases.

He is an active clinical researcher and is the site lead for the only ENROLL-HD centre in Ireland and is a member of a number of consortia examining these conditions.
He trained in psychology at UCD Dublin prior to completing his post-graduate training in neuropsychology (University of Wales MSc, University of London PhD & Diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology) and Clinical Psychology (MSc Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London). Her is a Fellow of the Psychological Society of Ireland.
